RIMMEL | 'Return of Kate' | Eye Pencil Sculpture
Designed by Kyle Bean and Sam + Arthur
BLINK ART
We installed a sculpture in collaboration with the lovely artist Kyle Bean at Blink Art.
He designed the image and we stepped in to help him facilitate its making. We used over 9000 Rimmel eye and lip liner pencils, with the team painstakingly placing each one in its relevant hole. It was a promotional tool for Kate Moss’ return as the face of Rimmel.

GUINNESS | 'Made of More' | Monument
Creative Director. David Wilson
BLINK ART
Guinness commissioned us through Saatchi & Saatchi and BlinkArt, to design and build a 3.5m, carved wooden pint glass sculpture to tell the story of Arthur Guinness on his journey to creating the black stuff.
It is part of the company's slogan update to 'Made of more'.
The whole project took six months, from our first involvement until final delivery.
It is constructed of 72 upright staves of American Ash wood stuck together in groups of six. This creates 12 sectional pieces that are then held together under tension. This was a logistical requirement of the design to allow the sculpture to be installed on the second floor of the Guinness Storehouse. The reason it was designed to be under tension was to to allow the wood to swell and contract as is unavoidable with such a natural material.
Once the construction process had finished, the carvers set about hand carving the 6.8m x 3.25m image onto the structure.
The final sculpture also now resides in the Guinness Storehouse, Dublin, and acts as a signpost to the main attractions within the museum.

MATTHEW WILLIAMSON
'Changing Seasons' | Sculptural Installation
Concept Direction. Kyle Bean
The lovely Kyle Bean came to us looking for help to create a new window idea that he had for the Matthew Williamson shop on Bruton Street, Mayfair.
We made the sculpture over six days in our Stoke Newington studio with the help of collaborator Sam Rinaldi.
The very commercial purpose of the tree ended up taking a journey into the world of Fine Art, much to Sam's enjoyment. To use square section, processed timber, to create the naturally occurring form that it had been in the first place is to travel full circle so to speak, and acts as a great metaphor for life...........
Even more great is the fact that the the tree will reside in Matthew's window for a year and will be repeatedly redressed as the seasons/collections change. It will be very exciting to see the beautifully simple methods, as is Kyle's style, used to update each season.
We will record the changes as and when they happen right here.

INT Works
Urban Outfitters wanted a backdrop for their AW12 campaign without going all the way to iceland, so we created 4 backdrops using polystyrene in a studio. Each set had to hold different textures and surfaces, and had to have to option to showcase multiple products from clothes to homeware.
All of the polystyrene was completely recycled at the end of the job. 2012 Art Direction, Fashion, Set Design -

BLINK INK
This is another chapter in our relationship with David Wilson and his wonderfully playful style, shown to great and sometimes extreme effect in his commercial for Swedish furniture giants, Ikea, where we follow our lead character on a Flashdance style through an abundantly colourful Ikea parallel universe.
It was lots of fun to make. Firstly the whole set had to be designed around David's vision for the choreography whilst still retaining the feel of a large and spacious New York loft apartment. We built the large set at Wimbledon studios over three days in August.
There were multiple technical challenges to overcome. David wanted to have his character exit the set into a dreamworld and then back again, however he wanted the dishwasher to be the exit point and the wardrobe to be the re-entry point, and of course in true David style it was all to be in camera. This made for a very interesting period of testing to achieve the required effect.

Marshmallow Laser Feast
KMel Robotics
Sam + Arthur
We were asked by Xander and Jonathan to be involved with the most incredible project.
Every year they design the intro and outtro sequence to the New Directors Showcase at Cannes Lions Festival. It is essentially a run down of some of the best emerging talent in the world of commercial directing. The reels however take a bit of a supporting role to the intro show.
This year we were privileged to work alongside KMel Robotics (www.KMelrobotics.com) and Marshmallow Laser Feast (www.marshmallowlaserfeast.com) who are both unbelievably technical and very talented in their various fields.
Essentially the show consisted of a large clear pyramid that was filled with moving smoke and light. That was where our input stopped. KMel designed a system of programming 15 quadrotors, essentially flying robots, that can be controlled by infra red cameras and programmed to fly in exact formations. MLF then got involved and fired light beams at the quadrotors. The end product is an incredible show of creative technology.
It was a pleasure to work with everyone involved in the project, we even broke the world record, twice, for most amount of programmed robotic vehicles flying together. 2012 Advertising, Engineering, Set Design -

INT WORKS/It's Nice That
Sam + Arthur
INT Works approached us to design and build a space at the 1948 Nike concept store in London. They were running a series of workshops with local designers, photographers, runners and members of the public in relation to Nike's brand new shoe design 'Flyknit'.
Our brief was to create a functional workshop space that could accommodate 30 people.
The style and design had to echo 'Flyknit's' main ethos which are Performance, Lightness, Formfitting and Sustainability. The workshop elements had to fold up and be stored quickly and easily to enable the variety of workshops they had planned.
Using steel and timber we designed and fabricated tables, benches, stools, blackboards, pin-boards, and a display unit for the space.
The addition of some light boxes with graphics and our 'flyknit butterflies' where we used the actual knitted uppers from the shoes, gave the space a lovely playful design feel. 2012 Art Direction, Furniture Design, Interior Design -

PREEN SS11 | NY fashion week show design
Designed by SAM AND ARTHUR
Justin and Thea, the Designers at Preen wanted a set designed for their New York show that separated them from the usual run of the mill catwalk set up.
It was quite a challenge as they wanted something that accentuated, but didn’t take up the very limited space at Milk Studios where the show was to be held.
It had to be fresh, sculptural and organic but the set ultimately had to accentuate the clothes, not overpower them.
It also had to fold up and be transportable, needing to go across town and up five floors in an elevator. Logistics and Beauty fought hard that day, but we hope that beauty won. 2012 Art Direction, Fashion, Set Design -

This was our second outing with the excellent director, Tom Beard.
He wanted to create various backdrops for all the creative cats in his commercial for All Saints, their first ever TV commercial incidentally.
We designed and built an artists studio, a dance studio, a bedroom (which didn't make the cut) and then dressed the banqueting location which was actually the All Saints warehouse in Kent where they keep all their amazing shop fitting kit. 10,500 original singer sewing machines reside there.
Any way we hope you like it. 2012 Advertising, Architecture, Art Direction -

Jessie wrote this song whilst living in a horrible run down LA hotel, so it was very important to get the right feel to the design as it is an emotional number for her.

Olly Murs needed a massive, working, record player for his new video. So we set about creating it. The surface of the record was the difficult part, an unknown entity and all the testing couldn’t guarantee a successful finish when made on such a scale. We ended up using a high gloss floor lino, and physically scratched the tracks onto the record....all in all a lo-fi solution to a hi-fi problem......oops 2012 Art Direction, Music, Set Design -
